Our Story

After 8 years at the helm, Mom & Me are thrilled to announce a new generation of Moms (and Me’s) at Good Stuff! When my friend Claire and her son Silas moved in around the corner, she brought along a dynamic community of friends, including Tanya. Soon the 3 of us – and our troop of kids – were gathering over raw picnics and potlucks, hiking and haircuts, discussions and dreams. As we sunk in our roots together, I discovered a new sense of kinship here, but it never occurred to me that one day Good Stuff too would find a new home a ‘country mile’ away here in the Finger Lakes, until one day… …Mom & Me ventured to consider how to free some time to delve deeper into our passion for education, and Tanya and Claire dared to imagine realizing their shared dream for promoting fresh food and interdependence through family-friendly entrepreneurship. With a shared vision of quality, community ,and continuity, some long nights – and a lot of help from our friends and families (thanks team!) – we moved the business to a beautiful new kitchen – and management – in Claire & Tanya’s capable hands! Looking forward, Good Stuff remains committed to (guess what?) Good Stuff! I’ll let Tanya and Claire tell you more about that. As for how Mom & Me (the ‘old’ ones, that is), will be spending our ‘free time’, Mom is completing her schooling to become a practitioner for the Gerson Institute (www.gerson.org) and I am instructing a Certificate Program in Plant Based Nutrition through eCornell and the T.Colin Campbell Foundation (www.eCornell.com). Our new adventure together – ‘Bite Sized Peaces’ –is focused on education related to health and nutrition. You will hear more from us soon! Realizing our Dreams Together is Good Stuff! We appreciate your support in the process! Rebecca Bosch Michaelides & Laurie Bosch (The original Me & Mom!)

Enter Tanya & Claire…

Our partnership blossomed out of friendship and a shared desire to educate ourselves and others about the benefits of raw foods; Our transition from “stay at home moms” to “entrepreneurs” stemmed from a need to support ourselves by doing what we are passionate about; Love for our children prompted us to seek opportunities to live compassionately and to model reverence for the planet and all beings; A shared vision of creating a better world for our children’s children has helped us focus our efforts on those things that we feel are truly important. The circumstances under which Good Stuff came to us was more than just coincidence—no amount of planning could have resulted in a more perfect partnership. Claire approached me about 9 months ago at a time when I was struggling with whether (and how) to return to work after a 6 year hiatus. I had been lamenting to my own Mom only days before that I would consider going back to work if and only if the perfect opportunity “dropped in my lap.” Well, two days later, it did! We are still producing Good Stuff with the same level of quality, care, and commitment to customer service that you have come to expect. Additionally, we are continuing to research more eco-friendly ways to run our business through recycled packaging, labeling, and shipping products. In this way we hope to lessen the impact of our time here on the planet—utilizing sustainable, organic raw ingredients in our products, and minimizing waste through reducing, reusing, and recycling. The journey which lead us to Good Stuff is the realization of a dream for both Claire and Me—a means to educate the public and promote the benefits of raw foods while including our children in the process. It is our sincere hope that the heartfelt, life-giving energy we have poured into the making of our products will find its way to you, the consumers of Good Stuff!

TANYA

Are raw foods really miracle foods? After 3-1/2 years on a primarily raw, vegan diet, my limited experience would say “definitely.” I rarely, if ever, succumb to illness and although my three children sometimes take turns sharing various germs and viruses, their sicknesses are generally VERY short-lived, rarely requiring doctor visits. Six years ago, my twins were born prematurely at 27 weeks—since that time I transitioned to a vegan – then raw diet. In my quest to find the ideal diet to nourish their growing bodies, I soaked up all the information I could find on nutrition and health. Today, all three of my children eat primarily raw and are vibrant, healthy, strong, intelligent beings. People marvel, and always comment, about the things they will eat. We visit the Farmer’s Market and they ask to buy containers of sprouts for the ride home! More and more, they gravitate towards foods that make their bodies feel good, asking for salads, fruits, and vegetables, rather than pasta, pizza, or chips. I am thrilled to have children who naturally crave and ask for good stuff!

My life’s education has followed a non-traditional path, but like most people’s lives it can probably be characterized as a series of journeys. One of the geographic sort, much of it by VW bus across essentially every state in the US. Another journey, one especially relevant here, is the one involving my growing appreciation of the relationship between the human body and the food we put in it. While I like to think I have always thought about the path food took to my table, it has taken more time to fully appreciate the relationship between the food we eat and our well-being. My thirst for learning more about the body/food connection has inspired yet more journeys; training as an herbalist (leading to a rich interest in collecting from nature with family and friends for most of what is in my “medicine cabinet”), formal certification as a vegan chef, and science of nutrition education in various university classrooms, to name a few. The true value of quality food became even more apparent following the diagnosis of my child Silas with Juvenile (insulin dependent) Diabetes. As the mother of a diabetic child I have to follow the immediate effect foods have on his body. This has left me face-to face with a question: how can we raise children in a world full of poor food choices for both the planet and the people entrusted to protect it? This has become my most recent journey, one that promises to be the most satisfying of all; being part of a endeavor of love and nature that makes it easier for mothers and everyone else to put good stuff in their body and the bodies of the people they love. I hope you enjoy the fruits of this Journey!
